What Every Latter-day Saint Should Know About Vaccines

Guest post by Samuel Smith

coronavirus vaccineAs drug manufacturers rush to create a vaccine for COVID-19, one question is sure to be on the minds of many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: “What is the Church’s position on vaccines?” Of course, many will point to the 1978 statement from the First Presidency wherein they stated: “We urge members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to protect their own children through immunization… Failure to act could subject untold thousands to preventable lifelong physical or mental impairment, including paralysis, blindness, deafness, heart damage and mental retardation.” Others will bring up the fact that since 2012, mass vaccination campaigns have been officially part of the Church’s humanitarian initiatives. Because of these facts, this is where the issue ends for many people. However, the questions most worthy of our consideration are these: What is God’s position on vaccines? Does He care? Is He in favor? Does He oppose? How can we know?

The answers to these questions, as I will argue, are yes, He does care and does have a position. The way that we can know is not only through “personal revelation”–for there is a chance we could be deceived by only relying upon such alone–but also through an appeal to the scriptures and prophetic teachings on the treatment of our bodies. So, let us examine some of these things.

Truth Should Be Confirmed By Scripture

First, we would do well to establish the fact that each of us is responsible for our own salvation and the path we chart. If we don’t know the doctrine found in the scriptures that lead the way to life and salvation, that is no fault of any leader–it is our own. Indeed, Church authorities have stressed time and again, that we each have the responsibility to discern truth for ourselves, by appealing to the scriptures. For example, Joseph Fielding Smith once proclaimed:

“It makes no difference what is written or what anyone has said, if what has been said is in conflict with what the Lord has revealed, we can set it aside. My words, and the teaching of any other member of the Church, high or low, if they do not square with the revelations, we need not accept them. Let us have this matter clear. We have accepted the four standard works as the measuring yardsticks, or balances, by which we measure every man’s doctrine. You cannot accept the books written by the authorities of the Church as standards in doctrine, only in so far as they accord with the revealed word in the standard works. If Joseph Fielding Smith writes something which is out of harmony with the revelations, then every member of the Church is duty bound to reject it. If he writes that which is in perfect harmony with the revealed word of the Lord, then it should be accepted” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p. 203).

President Harold B. Lee taught this principle frequently as well. On one occasion, he affirmed:

The scriptures are the standard by which to measure truth. All that we teach in this church ought to be couched in the scriptures. We ought to choose our texts from the scriptures, and wherever you have an illustration in the scriptures or a revelation in the Book of Mormon, use it, and do not draw from other sources where you can find it here in these books. We call these the standard Church works because they are standard. If you want to measure truth, measure it by the four standard Church works. If it is not in the standard works, you may well assume that it is speculation. It is man’s own personal opinion, to put it another way; and if it contradicts what is in the scriptures, you may know by that same token that it is not true. This is the standard by which you measure all truth. But if you do not know the standards, you have no adequate measure of truth” (Harold B. Lee, The Teachings of Harold B. Lee, 149).

With this idea in mind, who can point to the scriptural justification or rationale for vaccines? I have yet to find anything sufficiently and comprehensively convincing. On the contrary, as I will show, the justification for vaccines appears to rely more on the arm of flesh rather than on God. The scriptures repeatedly teach us to rely on God and His wisdom and not on the arm of flesh. In the Book of Mormon, Jacob proclaims:

“O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish” (2 Nephi 9:28).

In 2 Nephi 28, Nephi teaches us that “cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost” (2 Nephi 28:31). In the Old Testament, Jeremiah proclaimed: “Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:5). Furthermore, again and again in scripture we are commanded to “live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God” (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4; D&C 84:44; D&C 98:11).

Clearly, if we want to establish the truth of any teaching or any principle, it must be rooted in the scriptures, relying upon the Lord and His wisdom and not on the wisdom of man.

Doctrine and Covenants 42

Perhaps the strongest case against the use of vaccines comes from Doctrine and Covenants 42, wherein the Lord tells us what we should do. Lest one think this is just some obscure section in the Doctrine and Covenants, the section heading tells us that this revelation is known as the “Law of the Church.”  In this section, the Lord outlines a number of laws and principles to govern the Church. Included are a few verses that most of us typically glaze over concerning our health:

43 And whosoever among you are sick, and have not faith to be healed, but believe, shall be nourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild food, and that not by the hand of an enemy.

44 And the elders of the church, two or more, shall be called, and shall pray for and lay their hands upon them in my name; and if they die they shall die unto me, and if they live they shall live unto me.

In these verses, the Lord explains very plainly how the Saints are to deal with sickness and poor health. He commands that 1) we call for two elders or more to give a blessing. If we do not have faith enough to be healed, the Lord commands that we then turn to 2) herbs and 3) mild food. Is this counsel too simple that, like the Israelites of old or the Syrian Naaman, we choose to disregard God’s instruction to be healed?

This is not just some obscure counsel hidden away in some random verses of the Doctrine and Covenants, either. Joseph Smith, Prophet and Seer of this dispensation, taught this counsel on multiple recorded occasions. On one such occasion he wrote:

“I preached to a large congregation at the stand, on the science and practice of medicine, desiring to persuade the Saints to trust in God when sick, and not in an arm of flesh, and live by faith and not by medicine, or poison; and when they were sick, and had called for the Elders to pray for them, and they were not healed, to use herbs and mild food” (History of the Church, volume 4, page 414).

Here, Joseph reiterates the point above–that is, to rely on the Lord and not on the arm of flesh, especially when sick. Similarly, it is reported that Joseph taught that “the Lord had decided that the Doctors should not heal people; that medicine would have no effect” (“Revelation Book 2,” p. 1, The Joseph Smith Papers).  For a more comprehensive understanding of these teachings, let us now dig into what the Prophet and the Doctrine and Covenants have said.

Faith and Priesthood Blessings

Followers of Jesus Christ ought to be well acquainted with the power of the Savior to heal. He delegated this power to His disciples and restored it to Joseph Smith through the same. Throughout his life, the Savior went about healing all kinds of diseases (Mark 1:34). One pertinent example is when the woman with an issue of blood reaches out to Jesus amidst a crowd and touches His garment and is immediately healed. What makes this story so interesting is that Luke tells us that she “spent all her living upon physicians,” but that none of them could heal her (Luke 8:43-48). It was her faith in the power of Jesus Christ that made her whole.

Even as Jesus went about working great miracles and healing every one who had faith to be healed, He taught His disciples that they could do even greater works than He did if they would only believe (John 14:12). Indeed, He gave His disciples the power to heal “all manner of sickness and all manner of disease” (Matthew 10:1, emphasis added). Were we to have enough faith, we could command the elements even as Jesus and rebuke sickness and disease before needing any other kind of intervention. Indeed, there is no issue that is beyond the healing power of the Savior through the priesthood. Can you imagine if one holding the priesthood performed an act of healing and then said to the formerly afflicted, “Now you had best watch out for thrush, nausea, infection, fever, etc.”? Such a statement would mock the priesthood power. Yet, the all powerful vaccines promise health but still comes with a long list of warnings and side effects. For one simple example, the vaccine insert for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella produced by Merck, ProQuad, lists side effects such as pain, swelling, bruising, fever, irritability, “Measles-like-rash,” “Varicella-like-rash,” diarrhea, upper respiratory infection, meningitis, measles, bronchitis, pneumonia, and seizures, just to name a few. The manufacturer, of course, states that “some cases described in the literature or reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to [vaccine] exposure.” Thankfully, we can avoid the issue entirely when we rely upon the Lord for health!

The book of James in the New Testament likewise assures us of the power of Christ and the priesthood to heal the sick:

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him (James 5:14-15).

Again, the prayer of faith and the laying on of hands should be our first action should we fall prey to sickness. The Church-owned Deseret News was once of the belief that faith has the power to heal as well. In reference to smallpox (for which there was then a vaccine), Editor-in-Chief and future Apostle Charles W. Penrose, beginning with a quote for a competing paper, wrote:

“‘Do we understand our esteemed evening contemporary, the Deseret News, to say that smallpox may be cured by the laying on of hands and that it would recommend this treatment?’–S.L. Herald

The remarks of the Deseret News on this subject are plain enough for most people to understand, but for the benefit of our contemporary we will explain further. The position of the Deseret News on the question of the healing power is, that all kinds of ailments and diseases may be cured by faith, and that the laying on of hands is the method of administering to the sick instituted by divine command. Of course, this includes smallpox among the disorders that may be cured in that way. There are numerous instances of healing that disease by this divine means. There are many elders in this city, the writer of this article among the number, who have laid hands upon persons afflicted with… smallpox, and the patients have recovered while the elders administering have escaped the contagion.

It does not matter whether this statement is believed or not. The question is whether smallpox “may be cured by the laying on of hands.” The answer is yes if there is sufficient faith in the afflicted person to be healed, or in the persons who lay on hands to rebuke the disease

The Church which Jesus Christ has restored and organized in these latter days teaches the same doctrine. There are thousands upon thousands of witnesses to its truth. Many of them are living in these valleys today, and are ready to testify that they were healed, not by drugs or medical expedience, but by the power of God through faith and the laying on of hands” (Charles, W. Penrose, “Faith As A Curative,” Deseret Evening News, January 6, 1900, p. 7, emphasis added).

This point made by Penrose makes sense when we consider that in 1878 during a smallpox epidemic, Elder Llewellyn Harris visited a village of Zuni Indians in New Mexico to administer blessings. His health blessings, it was claimed, had cured some four hundred Native Americans then suffering from smallpox (Juvenile Instructor, vol 14, 1879, pp. 160-1).

As a side note, the Deseret News under Charles W. Penrose once specifically called out vaccines as “vile and ridiculous when forced upon the public.” The paper pointed out that the practice of inoculation against smallpox “spread the disease it was designed to check” (Deseret Evening News. January 12, 1900, p. 4). Similarly, when faced with fines by the government in England for not vaccinating his children, Apostle Brigham Young Jr. reportedly told the magistrate threatening him that he could fine him as much as he liked, but he “could not vaccinate his children” (“Talk on Vaccination,” Salt Lake Tribune, February 11, 1901).

Now getting back to the point about healing, as Joseph, Doctrine and Covenants 42, and the Deseret News have emphasized, this kind of healing is predicated upon faith. Thankfully, the Lord has provided a way for us to be healed, even when we do NOT have sufficient faith.

The Lord commands that if we do not have enough faith that we should next turn to herbs for relief. But just what are herbs? The Book of Mormon teaches us that God has prepared many “plants and roots” (herbs) to “remove the cause of diseases” (Alma 46:40, emphasis added). Here we learn that God did not just leave His children to suffer from sickness and die for thousands of years until vaccines were invented, but that He prepared specific plants to remove the very cause of disease. Not just the symptoms but the cause. A footnote in this verse takes us to Ezekiel 47:12 which tells us that we are to use “the leaf (herb) thereof for medicine.” What members commonly refer to as the Lord’s law of health, the Word of Wisdom, instructs us that “all wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man” (D&C 89:10)–that is, they are to strengthen and maintain our bodies. In fact, the Bible makes mention of many herbs which have been used as medicine for thousands of years.

The Prophet Joseph, once again, led by example in the use of herbs. In his journal, he recorded that when he was once seized upon by a violent sickness, “my wife waited on me assisted by my Scribe Dr. Willard Richards and his brother Levi, who administered to me herbs and mild drinks . . . by evening was considerably revived.” (“History, 1838–1856, volume E-1 [1 July 1843–30 April 1844],” p. 1804, The Joseph Smith Papers.) In fact, Joseph once remarked that Levi Richards (a Thomsonian herbal doctor) was the best doctor that he had ever met. Remember, Joseph had met many doctors in his life–many of the top doctors in the nation had even operated on his leg as a child.

On another occasion, Joseph recorded in his journal:

“To day Samuel [Brannan] came to my house, much afflicted with a swelling on his left arm, which was occasioned by a bruise on his elbow, we had been called to pray for him and anoint him with oil, but his faith was not sufficient to effect, a cure, and my wife prepared a poultice of herbs and [applied] to it and he [tarried] with me over night” (“Journal, 1835–1836,” p. 66-7, The Joseph Smith Papers, emphasis added).

In this instance, Joseph records that Mr. Brannan did not have enough faith to be healed, so the next step was to use herbs. In yet another example of these teachings, Joseph recorded the following:

“Wednesday the 14th I had continued to grow worse until my sufferings were [excruciating]… I found it expedient to call to my assistance those means which a kind Providence had provided for the restoration of the sick in connection with the ordinances, and [Doctor] Levi Richards, at my request, administered to me herbs and mild food, and nursed me with all tenderness and attention,— and my heavenly Father blessed his administration to the ease and comforting of my system, for I began to amend in a short time, and in a few days I was able to resume my usual labors. This is one of the many” (“History, 1838–1856, volume B-1 [1 September 1834–2 November 1838],” p. 762, The Joseph Smith Papers, emphasis added).

It is interesting to note that in this last example Joseph said that the “restoration of the sick” is connected to the ordinances. Indeed, the Word of Wisdom promises health in the navel and marrow to the bones. There is only one other place where those exact phrases are used, and it’s in conjunction with ordinances. This experience, as Joseph points out, was one of many–meaning the use of herbs was used quite frequently with great success in the early days of the Church. If we believe that Joseph was a prophet and that the Lord told him that we can become well by using herbs, shouldn’t we follow the counsel? Brigham Young believed we should, which may be one of the reasons why he said: “I am happy to say I have never been under the necessity of calling a doctor to my family for forty years… When we first came here we had no sickness, and we had no sickness until we had doctors” (Journal of Discourses, volume 13, page 132).

Mild Food

What is mild food? According to the most popular dictionary around during Joseph’s life, the American Dictionary of the English Language by Noah Webster in 1828, “mild” food would be defined as “Not sharp, tart, sour or bitter; moderately sweet or pleasant to the taste; as mild fruit.” Interestingly enough, the Word of Wisdom again advises us in this area as well. We are counseled to eat herbs (plants in general) and “fruit in the season thereof” (D&C 89:11). What other food could be considered milder than fruit ripened during the season in which God appointed it to become ripe. It should come as no surprise that Adam and Eve were commanded to exclusively eat fruit (Moses 2:29). How long did Adam live on such a diet? Did Adam and his posterity need a vaccine for the germs they surely encountered throughout their lengthy lives? How could a wise Creator overlook something so important for thousands of years until “inspiring” a man to “discover” germs? Of course, these questions are rhetorical. The benevolent Father through His Son Jesus Christ provided everything necessary for His children to be healthy and live long, prosperous lives.

Returning to the Word of Wisdom, the Lord promises that those who do as He instructs will have “health in their navel and marrow to their bones” and that “the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them” (D&C 89:18, 21). The Lord says that if we follow the Word of Wisdom, we will have health and strength. If we don’t, maybe we need to study the Word of Wisdom a little more to see if we’re following it correctly. The Lord is bound when we do what He says. He does not make promises He does not intend to keep.

Elder Abraham O. Woodruff once stated the importance of the Word of Wisdom in conjunction with our faith succinctly when he said:

“If the Word of Wisdom were more strictly observed among the people, there would be less need for calling in a doctor for every trivial affair than there is today. We are willing to trust in God for the minor matters, but when something confronts us, which appears to be impossible with us, then we will call in human aid, and thereby we show our lack of faith. It is true that all the assistance and all the skill that we can produce is necessary, perhaps, at times to remove the obstacles which lie in the ways of nature, and I believe that it is the will of God that we should do all we can for ourselves, and then he will add his blessing” (Abraham O. Woodruff, Conference Reports, 1897, pp. 56-58).

Indeed, when combined with faith and herbs, mild food will certainly do much good at keeping away death and disease, especially “vaccine-preventable” diseases. An interesting account from George Q. Cannon confirms the importance of the Word of Wisdom and this assertion:

“It has been said—and I think all who have had any experience know that it is true—that in families where the Word of Wisdom is obeyed there is greater faith in administering the ordinances of the house of God unto those who are sick. We have a Bishop in Salt Lake City who, I believe, took an account of the number of those who were sick in his Ward, and he brought a statement to the President’s office to the effect that in the families where the Word of Wisdom was strictly observed fewer deaths had occurred than in families where the Word of Wisdom was not observed. Diphtheria or some other disease was raging at that time in the city, and in his ward in particular, and his mind was turned to this matter, and after making inquiries he satisfied himself that there were more cases of healing and restorations to health through the administrations of the Elders by the laying on of hands in families where the Word of Wisdom was observed than in families where it was neglected, and that deaths were more frequent in the latter. [President Taylor: There were none died in the families where the Word of Wisdom was observed.] President Taylor says there were none died in the families where the Word of Wisdom was observed. Is it not natural that this should be the case?” (George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, volume 24, p. 146).

According to George Q. Cannon and John Taylor, yes, the Lord can protect you from a “vaccine-preventable” disease such as diphtheria by following His commands around health–ie the Word of Wisdom. From this particular account, it would seem that the laying on of hands is more efficacious when the Word of Wisdom is observed than when it is not.

But what about the Lord’s timing? What if it is God’s will that we suffer through a disease or affliction? This could very well be the case, but to these questions I would answer: where is this idea found in scripture? The book of Job, perhaps? Regardless, there seems to be something else from Doctrine and Covenants 42 that most of us have missed: “And again, it shall come to pass that he that hath faith in me to be healed, and is not appointed unto death, shall be healed” (v. 48). The Lord clearly states that those who have faith to be healed shall be healed unless it is their time to die. There is no clause that states healing will only happen according to His will or timing–it says shall. The only conditional clause refers to an appointed time of death.

If only we as a Church knew and understood these scriptures, we could have assurance that our shelter and safety even for health problems throughout our mortal probation is in the Lord, not the arm of flesh.

The Sanctity of Human Life

The first commandment given to Adam and Eve was to “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:28). This command was repeated to Noah (Genesis 9:1), and repeated in our day, this time adding, “for herein is the work of my Father” (Doctrine and Covenants 132:63). This sentiment was again reiterated recently when the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and First Presidency declared, “God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force” (The Family: A Proclamation to the World, The First Presidency).

The creation of mortal tabernacles for God’s children and the rearing of those children is paramount to God’s divine plan. Our bodies are one of the most sacred gifts our Father has given to us. The Lord has declared that “man is the tabernacle of God, even temples; and whatsoever temple is defiled, God shall destroy that temple” (D&C 93:35). How could we defile our temples (bodies)? Do we defile our temples only on the outside by tattoos and piercings? Or do we defile our temples also by what we put into them such as vulgar media and man made toxins that alter the chemistry of them?

The scriptures tell us that human blood is to be kept pure. Genesis 9:4 instructs us not to eat animal blood. Leviticus 17:14 reiterates the same point, but in much stronger language (see also Deuteronomy 12:23). In the New Testament, the book of Acts counsels us to abstain from blood and things “strangled” (Acts 15:20,29). vaccines, to the surprise of many, contain animal blood and DNA. Disguised under names such as “bovine calf serum,” “chicken protein,” “Madin Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK),” and “Monkey Kidney cell.”  In 2012, Merck recalled over a million doses of their Hib vaccine and Hib/Hepatitis B combination vaccine because of Bacillus Cereus contamination, a virus found only in cows.

Perhaps the most insidious aspect of vaccines is their connection to modern child sacrifice. Indeed, many vaccines are developed from aborted fetal tissues. The common argument whenever one brings up this reality is that “the vaccines were created from a couple of cultures in the 1960s. They don’t use them anymore.” For the sake of argument, let’s assume that this were true. I have heard many good members use the line from 1 Nephi 4:13 that “it is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.” Such a statement is, quite frankly, an abomination before the Lord. In that verse, which has been egregiously used, the Lord is referring to a wicked man [Laban] who was impeding His work. The Savior taught very clearly what should happen to anyone who harms a child: ”it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea” (Mark 9:42). The Lord does not treat kindly those who offend the pure and innocent. To suggest that God would approve of an abortion or the taking of one of his son’s or daughter’s body parts from such to create a vaccine to “save lives” is blasphemous and ignorant of the character of God. There is no utilitarianism to be found in the scriptures, and over and over, God condemns child sacrifice (see Exodus 20:13, Leviticus 18:21, Leviticus 20:2-5, Deuteronomy 5:17, Deuteronomy 12:30-32, Deuteronomy 18:10, 2 Kings 16:3 for a few references). Indeed, the Lord has declared: “Thou shalt not kill,” but in our day, He has also added “nor do anything like unto it” (D&C 59:6). A good tree does not bring forth evil fruit. If vaccines were good, they would not rely upon the willful disposal of the unborn.

The stark reality that most choose not to come to grips with is that more than twenty-three current vaccines contain cells, cellular debris, protein, and DNA from aborted babies, including vaccines for Adenovirus, Polio, Dtap/Polio/Hib Combo, Hep A, Hep A/Hep B Combo, MMR, MMRV Pro Quad, Rabies, Varicella, and Shingles. Despite what you may have heard, aborted baby parts are listed in the package inserts and ingredients in these vaccines. For instance, the Varivax insert says, “This product also contains residual components of MRC-5 cells including DNA and protein.” What these senseless companies list as ingredients are in reality precious children of God, these were real and living babies and each one of them has a story.

  • PER C6 came from a healthy 18 week-old baby who was aborted because “the mother wanted to get rid of the fetus”.
  • HEK293 was derived from the kidneys of a healthy aborted fetus and is currently in use for development of new influenza vaccines
  • Walvax-2 came from the lung tissue of a beautiful 3-month-old fetus and at least 9 other babies were used in the process.
  • IMR-90 originated from a 16-week-old female aborted baby and is available for purchase.
  • IMR-91 came from a 12-week-old male aborted baby.
  • WI-38 (RA 273) was a 16-week-old female baby (measuring 20 cm long) who was aborted in Sweden because the parents felt they had too many children.
  • WI-1 through WI-25 were derived from the lung, skin, muscle, kidney, heart, thyroid, thymus, and liver of 21 separate elective (and some speculate illegal) abortions.
  • Lambda.hE1 was a second trimester aborted fetus that is still used in many pharmaceuticals today.
  • WI-44 was derived from the lung of a 3-month-old female in Sweden.
  • MCR-5 was developed from the lung tissue of a 14-week-old male baby in Britain that is used in Polio, chickenpox, Hepatitis A and shingles vaccines.
  •  WI-1 through WI-26 and WI-38 required over 99 elective recorded abortions (and likely more) in the production of the rubella vaccine.

These examples alone confirm over 130 aborted fetuses used in development and production. But the overall number is much higher. In fact, “Godfather” of modern vaccines, Dr Stanley Plotkin admitted to using over 76 aborted fetuses on his own. Furthermore, researchers say that more and more aborted fetuses are needed each year for research and that these aborted babies are “absolutely critical.”  So it is not just one man, woman, or child that has perished for the sake of “health”, it is the continual sacrifice of children for profit.

Abortion is the pernicious evil of vaccines from which many of us willfully (or ignorantly) shield our eyes. President Russell M. Nelson once taught:

“What sense of inconsistency can allow people to grieve for their dead, yet be calloused to this baleful war [of abortion] being waged on life at the time of its silent development? What logic would encourage efforts to preserve the life of a critically ill twelve-week-old infant, but countenance the termination of another life twelve weeks after inception?” (Russell M. Nelson, “Reverence for Life,” General Conference, April 1985).

What’s more is that it’s not just the bodies of these fetuses that have been used for vaccine testing and production that are in jeopardy. No, vaccines are far more sinister. They affect the lives of millions of unborn in the form of sterilization. A simple search of the medical studies index “PubMed” reveals 62 peer-reviewed studies on the relationship of vaccines and sterilization. In one of these disturbing studies we find that the researchers “initiated studies relating to possible mechanisms of action and potential side effects of this vaccine, which should be relevant to world-wide regulation of population growth.”

The advent of the use of vaccines for sterilization originated with the World Health Organization (WHO). The Lancet reports:

“Since 1974, the Task Force on Birth Control [vaccines]s] of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction has promoted the development of a contraceptive [vaccine] directed against the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). There are several possible mechanisms by which such a [vaccine] might exert antifertility effects…

“Whatever the mode of action of such a [vaccine], data in the marmoset and the baboon established the principle that immunity to hCG is capable of blocking fertility at an early stage of pregnancy with no discernible alterations in the menstrual cycles. This method, therefore, could be a highly acceptable birth control strategy in both developed and developing countries.”

While it is clear that a chief objective of the WHO task force on birth control vaccines for decades has been to reduce fertility rates, this surely can’t be included in any of the vaccines in our current schedule, can it? Think again. According to an unprecedented 2018 study, the HPV vaccine reduces fertility by almost 50%. According to the researchers, if they had given the HPV vaccine to all women in the study (as opposed to the half they used as a placebo group) an estimated 2 million children would have never been conceived. One can only imagine the vast number of children worldwide, never to be born as a product of the HPV vaccine.

This isn’t an isolated scenario. In 2014, the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association released a chilling statement suggesting that they had, “found an antigen that causes miscarriages in a [vaccine] being administered to 2.3 million girls and women by the World Health Organization and UNICEF.” Priests throughout Kenya immediately began advising congregations to refuse the vaccine.

The same antigen, called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), developed by the WHO task force on birth control vaccines has been found in numerous tetanus shots around the world. In cases like Thailand, spontaneous abortion (or miscarriage) was reported within 24 hours of receiving the shot. One report suggests that “The World Health Organization only targeted women between the ages of 15 and 45 — the child bearing years — for repeated tetanus vaccinations.” When just the studies mentioned here are taken into account, it is clear that millions upon millions of lives have been lost or prevented in the name of “health and safety.”

These disturbing findings run in direct opposition to the Church’s teachings found in the scriptures and echoed by modern prophets and apostles. We have already discussed God’s command to multiply and replenish the earth throughout the ages. Modern prophets have also taught this doctrine over and over. Brigham Young once stated:

“This law is pure and holy, and every act of our lives should be to promote that and not destroy it. We should preserve the life that is within us and permit it to multiply. If any other course is pursued in the midst of this people, the curse of God will come upon those who do it” (The Complete Discourses of Brigham Young 3:1916).

President Harold B. Lee affirmed:

“[I]t is a grievous sin before God to adopt restrictive measures in disobedience to God’s divine command from the beginning of time to ‘multiply and replenish the earth.’ Surely those who project such measures to prevent life or to destroy life before or after birth will reap the whirlwind of God’s retribution, for God will not be mocked” (Conference Report, October 1972, p. 63).

President Spencer W. Kimball once taught: “The Church cannot approve nor condone the measures which so greatly limit the family” (Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, pg. 328).

Perhaps the most stinging rebuke of this perhaps covert effort to limit the human family comes from President Ezra Taft Benson who declared:

“True to form, many of the people who desire to frustrate God’s purposes of giving mortal tabernacles to His spirit children through worldwide birth control are the very same people who support the kinds of government that perpetuate famine. They advocate an evil to cure the results of the wickedness they support” (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 539).

vaccines make a mock of the sanctity of life in not just one way but many. It is truly sad that many good people of our day will ignore even the small fraction of evidence presented thus far and bury their heads in the sand. Is it any wonder though, considering that we have been warned in the Book of Mormon that there would be “secret combinations” to get “power and gain” among us; the Lord Himself commanding us to “awake to a sense of your awful situation” (Ether 8:22-24). Such thoughts are surely frightening. My position is never to shame or belittle someone who will deny these things, because I do not want someone to do the same to me. The only thing that we can do is proclaim truth and “waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness” (D&C 123:13).

Individual Responsibility

It’s unfortunate that if you oppose vaccines in today’s world, you are ignorantly and pejoratively smeared as a “monster,” “science-denier,” and a “child-killer.” None of these insults, however, could be further from the truth. In denying a vaccine, many believe that there comes a greater acceptance of responsibility for health. And this is how it should be. If we alone are responsible for our salvation, why would our health be any different? The prophet Joseph Smith was well acquainted with responsibility for health, which he believed he had learned the hard way. In his journal, Joseph wrote:

“I had been called to thousands of cases in sickness, and I have never failed of administering comfort where the patient has thrown himself unreservedly on me; and the reason is, that I never prescribed any thing that would injure the patient, if it did him no good. I have lost a Father, Brother and child, because in my anxiety I depended more on the judgment of other men than my own; while I have raised up others, who were lower than they were… [P]eople will seldom die of disease, provided we know it seasonably, and treat it mildly, patiently and perseveringly and do not use harsh means. It is like the Irishman’s digging down the Mountain, he does not put his shoulder to it, to push it over, but puts it in his wheelbarrow and carries it away day after day, and perseveres in it, until the whole mountain is removed; so we should persevere in the use of simple remedies (and not push against the constitution of the patient) day after day and the disease will be removed and the patient saved” (“History, 1838–1856, volume D-1 [1 August 1842–1 July 1843],” p. 1537, The Joseph Smith Papers).

For those who may not know, Joseph believed that he lost his father, his brother Alvin, and a child at the hands of doctors through poison (or medicine). And yet in his journal, he wrote that he raised up people who were worse off than those three were through simple administrations and remedies. Indeed, Joseph learned from these experiences and many others to trust in the Lord and not the wisdom of man.

None of what has been written here should be used as an excuse to forego vaccines and do nothing. On the contrary, we must take charge of our own health, seeking out the best available knowledge that aligns with what the scriptures teach. The Lord has said: “let every man stand or fall, by himself, and not for another; or not trusting another.”(JST Mark 9:44) When it comes to our bodies, who do we think knows better about how it feels and what it needs–a doctor, or ourselves? Or yet, what about the Lord? Indeed, we should counsel with the Lord and seek knowledge to find the Godly alternative to vaccination.

It also bears repeating that each man and woman should have a choice about vaccinating themselves and their children. Our bodies are a gift from God. It is our responsibility to take care of our own–and no one else’s. To force any kind of procedure upon someone against his will is satanic in nature. It was Satan, who, in the pre-existence rebelled against God and “sought to destroy the agency of man” (Moses 4:3). Agency–not only the right of conscience but to make choices for one self–as taught in the Book of Mormon is paramount to our progression and salvation. In stark contrast to Satan’s way of force is the Savior’s way of love. The second great commandment as Jesus taught is to “love thy neighbor as thyself” (Matthew 22:39). It would be a strange way to love someone in this way–to force a medical procedure upon another that he did not want, especially when the procedure would violate his conscience and religious beliefs. No, God does not work by force, only by “persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned; by kindness, and pure knowledge…” (D&C 121:41-42). To suggest that God would approve of a medical procedure by threat of force or under penalty of law is to have imagined a god up unto yourself. God respects our agency and our freedom. As President David O. McKay taught:

“This principle of free agency and the right of each individual to be free not only to think but to act within bounds that grant to every one else the same privilege, are sometimes violated even by churches that claim to teach the doctrine of Jesus Christ. The attitude of any organization toward this principle of freedom is a pretty good index to its nearness to the teachings of Christ or to those of the Evil One” (Conference Report, April 1950, p. 36).

Near the end of His mortal life, Christ admonished His disciples that in the last days, “there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Joseph Smith Matthew 1:22). In many instances, modern medical science has shown many signs and wonders of its power. Have we been deceived by these things? Remember, there are only two powers–the power of Christ and the power of the devil. If we are healed by some other way than by what the Lord has revealed, is it of God? The way that the Lord has revealed is through our own faith and the laying on of hands. If we do not have enough faith to be healed, the Lord has counseled us to use herbs and mild food. The Lord has even promised in the Word of Wisdom that we shall have health and strength by abiding its principles. But, just as with everything the Lord asks of us, we must trust in Him and what He says.

The question ultimately comes down to what we believe and in whom we trust. God gives to us according to our desires. So whether your faith is rooted in vaccines and doctors or in the Lord, “according to your faith be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29). There may be some who do not have faith to follow these things, and that is fine. Each man and woman will one day stand accountable before the Lord for his or her own actions.   For me and my house, we trust the Lord and His promises. We have seen the blessings unfold as we have strived to follow His ways. The question is now: what will you do?

This was amazing!!!! I always had the inkling that vaccines were wrong–it just never felt right. And now, since the whole craziness over the scamdemic, I have been blessed to come upon this wonderful sermon (for it is worthy to be called such) that has confirmed my faith in God! I know He has given us all of the tools we need to live long and strong. I always had the question of “what did Adam and Eve do without this modern medicine?”, and I always knew that they relied on God, but I never pondered enough to reach this point. THANK YOU for enlightening me! This was absolutely brilliant!

You so succinctly summarized the thoughts I have on this subject. After years of making it a matter of deep study, pondering and prayer, I know beyond all doubt that the Lord’s way to health is not through vaccines and man-made pharmaceuticals. What a blessing to now stand confident of His will in times such as these!

Thank you for answering my prayers. This was exactly what I needed. That being said, where do I even begin? What has been the best source for you as you have changed from medically healing to natural healing.

  • Avatar for LDSC Mark Saunders Says:

Thank You!!! Even our living prophet has stated, “ Faith is the antidote for fear.” Why then does the church REQUIRE vaccination prior to serving a mission?

  • Avatar for LDSC Mel Says:

Amen! I completely agree with everything you’ve said. Very well written and explained. Thank you so much! My question: What is the best way to respond to those who play the “shame” card – those who shame you into taking a vaccine to protect others, to save other children?

Thank you for this well-researched and well-written article addressing this important issue. I only had one flu shot, over 40 years ago, and it made me sicker than I have almost ever been. I have had a number of doctors and others trying to push drugs on me, like the flu shot or Statin drugs, which can definitely cause liver damage, etc. I fortunately have resisted that pressure and don’t even go for check ups any longer, due to all of the unwanted tests and procedures that doctors or other practitioners want to impose on me. I do take well-researched and tested supplements which are made with herbs and which have no side-effects. They provide me with so many of the nutrients that we no longer get in our store-bought and preserved foods. The mention of living the Word of Wisdom makes me think of the enormous number of Church members who are fine drinking caffeine drinks on a daily basis but who would also never touch a cup of coffee, which contains the same addictive and harmful substance. There is mounting evidence that all of the vaccines given to children are a probable cause for the huge rise in autism. Big Pharma has everything to gain from the billions they make from prescription drugs, vaccines, etc. Why are we putting our trust in the arm of flesh???

  • Avatar for LDSC GERALD WHISENANT Says:

The upcoming vaccine for Covid is going to be a big problem for many individuals and families. I am older and suffer from chronic Lyme disease and other issues and so I am frequently encouraged by my Doctor to get vaccines. I skip the flu vaccines and most others, but I made a tough choice to have the shingles vaccine. I am concerned that one of the coercions with the Covid vaccine will be that proof may be absolutely required for our children to go to school and for adults to go to work as well as required for us to receive our government benefits.

  • Avatar for LDSC Joy Metcalf Says:

I am so glad to see this article. I belong to the Maine Vaccine Choice and I’ve studied vaccines extensively. None of the 16 vaccines recommended for children have ever been tested against saline placebos, instead using adjuvants or other untested vaccines as “placebos”, and when mercury (thimerisol) was removed, Pharma started using aluminum as an adjuvant. Another highly neurotoxic element, which crossed the blood-brain barrier and causes inflammation! BTW, mercury is still in flu vaccines and is now recommended for children and pregnant women.

Too many church members rely on the arm of flesh rather than the arm of God. Our Father gave us a beautiful and complex immune system, which we as a race are busily compromising at every turn. We don’t need vaccines, we need better attention to the Word of Wisdom (the do’s are largely ignored) and less attention to the latest medical breakthroughs. I’ve used homeopathy for years, which gently encourages the body to heal itself, as well as herbs, essential oils, and, of course, the Priesthood, which is my go-to for anything serious.

  • Avatar for LDSC Ralph Hughes Says:

I consider it perfectly reasonable for any Church member to ask if the Church still stands by that 1978 statement from the First Presidency wherein they stated: “We urge members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to protect their own children through immunization… Failure to act could subject untold thousands to preventable lifelong physical or mental impairment, including paralysis, blindness, deafness, heart damage and mental retardation.” Any Church member should be free to ask that his/her bishop; or branch president to forward the question thru the proper channel to the current First Presidency and expect timely a reply.

  • Avatar for LDSC Daniel Black Says:

Thank you so much for this powerful article! I have been opposed to vaccines for many years, and did not have my children vaccinated. My sister, who is a nurse, was forced to take a flu vaccine by her employer and suffered a severe vaccine injury as a result. I am aware that many have had much worse consequences. But this article presents an entirely different perspective than the science and empirical aspects or vaccines. Very enlightening.

Regarding the First Presidency statement, I don’t expect a change from Priesthood leaders. I know this from personal experience with other controversial issues. We need to rely on our own study and personal inspiration on matters such as this. Brigham Young said the following:

Let every man and woman know, by the whispering of the Spirit of God to themselves, whether their leaders are walking in the path the Lord dictates or not. This has been my exhortation continually. What a pity it would be if we were led by one man to utter destruction! (Journal of Discourses 9:149)

    Ezra Taft Benson:

Sometimes from behind the pulpit, in our classrooms, in our council meetings, and in our Church publications, we hear, read or witness things that do not square with the truth. This is especially true where freedom is involved. Now do not let this serve as an excuse for your own wrongdoing. The Lord is letting the wheat and the tares mature before he fully purges the Church. He is also testing you to see if you will be misled. The devil is trying to deceive the very elect.

I recommend watching the documentary 1986 The Act, which will also help you understand the lack of liability vaccine manufacturers have. The law enacted by Congress with the intent to protect victims of vaccine injury have been corrupted by the very agencies we have mistakenly depended on to keep Americans safe. Monetary gain and the love of money is the root of all of this evil! Medical tyranny is real, and we need to fight back.

RE: “We urge members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to protect their own children through immunization…”

There’s the possibility that the statement was given in ignorance of the dangers of vaccines. However, another consideration is that “immunization” does not only reference vaccination. There are many ways to immunize yourself that don’t involve vaccines.

I am in total agreement with this writers research as it is truth, which I in the natural health world have lived by for the past 45 years. I really appreciate all of the Prophets pertinent messages highlighted here. My journey out of a serious disease as a teen led me by personal research to that world of natural healing along with this gospel as well thankfully, so spiritual healing too . The references to D&C 42 & our past esteemed Prophets of course are relevant today as it was back then. I used to vaccinate my children because that’s what my family did. I didn’t know any better, and my husband, wasn’t vaccinated as a child, never really cared, so we did. I first questioned vaccines when my cousin told me that they were made with aborted babies. I was on the fence for a long time and didn’t know what to do. I was getting confused because I was trying so hard to understand all the scientific literature. I finally took a step back and said to myself, “I don’t need to understand why not to vaccinate from a scientific perspective…I need to understand why not to vaccinate from a spiritual perspective, and then all things will be added unto it.” Of course now, both my husband and I are adamantly against them and speak to people about how harmful they are; how they cause more harm than people realise. I believe they are the cause for the rise in so many auto-immune diseases that are prevalent in our children today. Our 4 and almost 1 year old children have never had any vaccines, or been to a Dr. until just within the last month since my 4 year old got pertussis, which she passed to my baby. But, we got through the illness with ease by using high doses of Vitamin C! My oldest two, 9&7, haven’t been vaccinated for over 6 years and haven’t been to the doctor since; except my 7 year old when she broke her arm at age 5. I thank God often for opening my eyes to the dangers of modern medicine. It has it’s place, but causes more harm than good. If you look in to the start of the pharmaceutical industry, I don’t think you’ll be surprised at what you find!

  • Avatar for LDSC Hal Says:

I think the writer of this article is simplifying things too much. I have a child who developed Type 1 diabetes at 3 years old. Despite prayers and blessings this child would have died without insulin manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. Should I refuse the insulin and let my child die, which would likely end in the government prosecuting my husband and I and sending us to prison resulting in our other children having no parents? I think not. This article preaches extremism. Stay in the mainstream. If you feel to not vaccinate, then don’t do it. But, the Lord could very easily have blessed a righteous chemist with knowledge from on high to create a medicine to help people.

In reading the Doctrine and Covenants states what we need to do to stay healthy and clean, it doesn’t mention vaccines, or modern medicine, in fact it say DO NOT RELY ON THE ARM OF FLESH, its very obvious what the arm of flesh is, when I was in my early 30’s I started to get very sick, I did what everyone does, I went to the doctor, that doc sent me to a specialist to run tests, which they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with me, one doc said that it was all in my head and prescribed meds for my moods or depression, I set them on the window sill and had a very awful feeling about them, I never took them and threw them away, I decided to get a Prestood Blessing, in that blessing I heard these words Do NOT go to Doctors they will be a curse unto you, WOW I remember thinking well if you don’t go to doc’s what do you do??? so I prayed and asked for help, walking downtown SLC I saw an Herb shop, lights went off, I was so happy to find my answer, I have deciated my life to learning and applying herbs, and have been healed many times through their wonderful healing powers,
EVERY latter day saint should read this wonderul artical, because I just was at a loss how vaccines with aborted Fetal Tissue could be injected into a child was the right thing, how did we get SO far from the truth, thinking that a side effect was not a HUGH WARNING to your body that something is wrong with the product you are injesting??? you body is telling you something is wrong!!! A GREAT ARTICAL and it speaks the TRUTH

  • Avatar for LDSC Sue Says:

I have used some of these scriptures in discussing vaccines with church members who have come at me hard e.g. The Word of Wisdom, free agency, 11th verse of Articles of Faith, Revelation 13 etc. also the fact that as a member of the church we don’t drink tea and coffee so the Lord would not have us injecting aborted foetus, animal DNA and other toxic ingredients into our bodies.
This is an amazing article with so much more information and insight, thank you 🙌

Wow!! Thank you for writing this!! I have been very disappointed that I have never seen articles against vaccinations from a Church perspective. After an adverse reaction experiences by my 3rd child when having her 5 years school shots, I started to question things. With an almost 10 years gap between her and our next I set on a 9 months study on all I could find on both sides of the argument. I came to the conclusion that it was not the thing we should do for this next child. When I prayed for confirmation I was told unequivocally that if we were to vaccinate this child he would not be able to live up to his full potential. My husband, who is a nurse struggled as all his training encouraged it, but thankfully after he prayed, he received the same direction. That was 12 years ago. I know more now than I did then and I stand firm that to vaccinate is not the right thing to do!! I have been belittled by doctors, members and my own family but I know what I know, and that is that!!

    Thankyou for an interesting article.
I wonder also though are physicians not trained under God’s hands fir a reason? If medically the soundest way forward is to vaccinate (and whilst from what you report you are argue it is unethical for LDS to participate), should we also as in any other decision, use our agency, whilst collectively trying to stop the unethical practices in the future. The English language is spoke almost everywhere in the world, yet how much bloodshed did that cost? Should we stop speaking it? No, because the days of bloodshed for such are over. Could the same happen with vaccines, this should be explored? I don’t think the first presidency will directly say no vaccines, I think they will state principles and leave it for us to decide, as we should. Personally I am not keef n esoecialky having read your article, however I also accept for any holistically right solution for a time, it is never down to just what my brain thinks and for me, neither should it be for anyone with the Holy Ghost?

There’s a place for this article but there’s also place for the Lord to *counsel* you. Anything that sweepingly paints the use of modern medicine as a resource that is seemingly not viable or necessary is a concern. Many of the Lord’s servants, including prophets and apostles, worked in health care. Mental health alone is a hot issue that the church emphatically advises to seek help for.
The vaccines efficacy or ingredients is not the issue I have with the article. In fact it’s not about this or any other vaccine on the horizon. The issue I have is the crafted message to ‘turn away’ from conventional care to rely ONLY upon God (through the writer’s examples) Or that if you do seek medical intervention you’re perhaps not ‘relying on God enough’(?).
God himself provided means of healing through mankind. I can say that there is a place for that, too. Unfortunately, the writer did readers a disservice by scooting that imperative point aside. How many will abandon needed medical means in the name of this article’s agenda?

Vaccines have benefitted millions around the world. And the Church’s leaders urge us to get immunized against preventable diseases. You don’t have to. There’s no discipinary action if you don’t. So I think a reasonable person can disagree and choose not to vaccinate. But I’m troubled by the way this article try’s to sew doubt about the church’s stance on the matter. It builds convoluted, tortured arguments to try to square a person opinion against vaccines with “God’s position”. If we believe in modern prophets, the message from God is clear: it’s smart to get immunized.

  • Avatar for LDSC Ciel Says:

I don’t believe it’s “smart to get immunized” at all, unless you are speaking of living the Word of Wisdom in all its words…eating primarily plants and grains and doing so seasonally.
Injecting toxins, including highly toxic aluminum, with alarming numbers of different combinations for relatively mild illnesses (chicken pox for one, measles for another), seems like a bad idea. A very careful research of all vaccines before blindly allowing drs to jab your arm and the arms of your children ought to be required reading. Do the research! Read the vaccine inserts including all of the possible side effects and risks.
The healthiest children are the unvaccinated ones. If people practice good hygiene and tend to the health of their terrain, disease does not wish to linger.

  • Avatar for LDSC Tessa C Says:

It seems there is some turmoil about how the church leader’s urge members to immunize our families.
Through my learning, there is a HUGE difference between “immunization” and “vaccination”. I believe the chosen word allows us to still make a choice as we follow our personal study and revelation.
According to my learning, simply, it says that ‘vaccination’ is using vaccines, the lab prepared serum that is most often injected into the body. ‘Immunization’ is preparing your body to withstand sickness. This can be using herbs, following the Word of Wisdom, breastfeeding, getting plenty of outside time and sunshine, etc. There are SO many ways to immunize our bodies as preparation for withstanding illness!!
I personally have studied and have prayed and feel very strongly that my family will not use vaccines. I very much appreciate all the time spent on this article. It resonates with me very much. Thank you!

I would like to be able to share this with family and friends. How can I share this? I have been feeling the same way about vaccines for years and now I know that I am on the right track. I was at the mission home signing papers that I would opt out of the vaccines. When someone asks why I said because it is against my religion. I had many come up to me to thank me because they felt pressured to have vaccines.

  • Avatar for LDSC Tracy Says:

This is such a well researched and well written article. Thank you for this! My children are all grown now and all were vaccinated. If I had it to do over, I don’t think I would make the same decision. But vaccines are different now and there are too many, too soon. Also the dark side has a clear agenda. My experience is that the Lord loves the exception to the rule. Each family must make this decision for themselves, and it should be respected. The creator has told us how to care for the gift of our body. There is a place for “western medicine” but it is a much smaller piece than we give it. Returning to the herbs and remedies of the earth will produce a much stronger immune system than anything else we can get from the medical world. Thank you for this article!

This is a topic I have pondered and fretted over a lot as a new mother. There is a lot I could say here. I disagree with many of your points, but I agree with many of them too.

I’d like to point out that I have my babies at home, and they are all selectively vaccinated on a delayed schedule.

This is a topic that while important, does not make it to the very top of my important topics list. I’m actually not sure that god has an opinion about it. (besides the abortion issue.)

I think we all need to just do exactly what you have done, and study and research and try to come to a conclusion for ourselves. The problem is, I think if I tried I might be able to write a convincing article with scriptural/religious support FOR vaccines.

A lot of the points you make here could also be made about any type of modern medicine. Where’s the line? Is is it bad to take a Tylenol? Why do some people have faith an then still die? Did they not have enough faith?

I think this is a seriously multi faceted issue and not one that is so cut and dry. I am still undecided.

Here is a BY quote to leave you with:

“If we are sick, and ask the Lord to heal us, and to do all for us that is necessary to be done, according to my understanding of the Gospel of salvation, I might as well ask the Lord to cause my wheat and corn to grow, without my plowing the ground and casting in the seed. It appears consistent to me to apply every remedy that comes within the range of my knowledge, and to ask my Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, to sanctify that application to the healing of my body; to another this may appear inconsistent.
If a person afflicted with a cancer should come to me and ask me to heal him, I would rather go the graveyard and try to raise a dead person, comparatively speaking. “

We’ve learned to avoid modern medicine over the last 20 plus years, except for certain emergency related items (as an example, my son had severe head trauma due to a fall and required surgery). But that is not really a health issue, but a traumatic injury.
As for one comment on this page regarding diabetes, even that can be cured through proper treatment using herbs and mild food. Just need to find the right doctor who knows how to use it with skill. Those who seek will find. Combine prayer, with fasting and seeking, and like so many pointed out on this page, you will be guided to solutions that address the cause of the ailment and lead to a cure, vs. a patch like insulin.

I really appreciate and respect this article. I wish that I had known more about vaccines when my children were young, but I fully relied on the arm of flesh by trusting our pediatrician without asking questions and getting answers for myself. In the past several years I have researched vaccines and have found that they have caused considerable harm and damage. They are full of toxic chemicals which we should not want in our bodies. If I were to have a child today I would choose not to vaccinate him. These scriptures and counsel by our prophets given in this excellent article lay out the spiritual side of what I’ve already studied and concluded. God does clearly care about what we put inside our bodies and he cares about how we treat our bodies. I believe there is a place for modern medicine, but we should never just accept what any doctor prescribes us without seeking spiritual guidance to confirm it. I have found that most doctors refuse to even consider natural approaches to sickness. They simply prescribe as they have been trained to do through their schooling. To me it all comes down to trusting God over the arm of flesh. Thank you for this article!

Excellent!! So well written and researched! Thank you for writing and posting this! I have had these exact thoughts and feelings as I have done my own research on health and modern medicine over the last 8 years. You articulated it much clearer than I have been able to so thank you!

Let me include here a quote from Dr. Zach Bush, who I think is one of the most brilliant doctors alive:

“There is not a single pharmaceutical drug you can take that can put you into balance.

Every drug disrupts the normal pathways of signaling and function.

If nature did not make the compound, our physiology does not understand it. Every pharmaceutical out there is altered from its nature intended chemical structure so that it can be patented and turned into a multi-billion dollar revenue stream.

For every intended action of a drug, there is an opposite negative impact. That’s why the disclaimers are full of all the ways your body may become out of balance – erectile dysfunction, fatigue, and possible death…. but at least your blood pressure will be a bit better.

We need to learn how to connect with our intrinsic ability to heal.

Healing is within you. It always has been.”

It always has been because God designed it that way. In Revelation 18:23 it tells us that “by thy sorceries were all nations deceived”. The original Greek word for sorceries is pharmakeia, which is where we get our word for pharmacy. It is my feeling that the pharmaceutical industry is the very thing that has deceived all nations, even the “very elect”.

Re: the comment about diabetes, my sister is type 1. Here are some things to think about….she contracted Type 1 diabetes just after her 5 yo doc visit where multiple vax were administered, could have caused it? We will never really know in this life.

The “scientists and researchers” have developed liver transplant, kidney transplant, artificial heart etc etc, why not pancreas? Why not lungs for CF patients??? Too much money is made off of these drugs that diabetics and CF patients need in order to survive, follow the money. Why aren’t more studies done on long term effects from vaccines? Profit margins would decline rapidly…evil conspiring men and women are at the helm of the conventional medical and pharmaceutical industries. It’s the old problem reaction “solution” scam…
Great information here. Thank you for taking the time to put this all together. Glad to see so many who are awake to our awful situation.

I have never read so much false doctrine in one place. President Nelson is a prophet and a doctor and have emphasized many times the importance of vaccines. Many of the scriptures and quotes mentioned here are not useful for our days, since revelation is given to prophets for a specific place and time. I feel so sorry for all these people that have been deceived by this writer.

So it’s an interesting article. I’m still pro vaccines. Here’s the thing about this article is that the person who wrote this article I can see that they are against vaccines and they’re trying to prove why they are against vaccines. My problem with this is that the Prophet hasn’t come out and said anything yet about this vaccine so this person’s opinion is void. In fact he uses his article to just prove his point that we shouldn’t be using vaccines at all and towards the end of the article it almost sounds like he saying that the churches stance on vaccines and giving vaccines in their humanitarian efforts is wrong because we should just be giving priesthood blessings and using mild food and herbs. I almost look at it as he’s saying that what our leaders of the church have decided and their stance on vaccines is wrong. I request a priesthood blessing when I’m sick; however, when it comes to diseases that require medical attention or other medical advances in the health field I will put my life in the trust of God with my doctors. I always get a blessing before I go in for a medical treatment and I cannot tell you how many blessings I have received where the Lord has said that the doctors will be inspired to know what to do to help heal me. I also think about the time when Joseph Smith was a child and he got an experimental surgery to save his leg. He trusted the Lord his parents trusted the Lord in that situation and the Lord helped to heal him through that experimental surgery so that he could walk again. He would’ve lost his leg if that surgery was not performed. The advancements in healthcare are a blessing and the Lord has provided these miraculous ways of healing the body through innovation and research. I understand that the vaccine has come out rather quickly but I believe that is the miracle itself. The Lord through our fasting and prayer has provided a way for us to overcome by getting a vaccine for this disease that has caused fear throughout the world. My faith extends to as far as if I get that vaccine and it’s supposedly is harmful then the Lord will either warn me or the effects of that vaccine will not bother me because I have faith in the Lord that he will protect me. It’s like those scriptures where the Lord says that not even poison will affect those who follow him. If the Prophet comes out and says we should not take the vaccine, then I won’t take it but that’s the only reason I wouldn’t do it.

Unfortunately, just another private opinioner going to great lengths to try to look as if he represents authority of the Church. The author cherry-picks scripture and quotes some comments made for a PREVIOUS day (before the advent of modern medical blessings inspired by the Lord), and contrary to counsel and example given in OUR day. It is for that reason that we are given LIVING prophets, seers, and revelators for TODAY. Please don’t be deceived – “FOLLOW THE PROPHET” is the WORD OF THE LORD and HIS MOUTH PIECES. We are assured that the living prophet will never lead us astray, and we may, if we wish, receive confirmation through prayer. “Follow the Prophet. He knows the way.” The truth is that simple and doesn’t need great lengths to understand.

I was recommended this article by a co-worker as I have been contemplating getting my vaccine for COVID-19. I thought it was a well-written article and there were some good points to be made, but I couldn’t help but think of things missing within this article.

As someone who is studying the sciences, I believe that there is an overhaul on the religious emphasis. Although we should rely on God in faith, protection, and guiding us, we also need to do our own research. Faith and science and coincide, side by side. I think of the part of the search, ponder, and pray method we are taught in primary when it comes to figuring things out for ourselves. We need to search it out, whether it is secular or spiritual, find the truth. In articles, question whether the facts are skewed to meet the needs of the author, what are the facts, and what is fiction? As you do that, continue to pray. We are taught in the Doctrine and Covenants 10: 2-3:

“Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.
“Now, behold, this is the spirit of revelation; behold, this is the spirit by which Moses brought the children of Israel through the Red Sea on dry ground.”

While there are some good facts that are presented here, the approach to fully relying on God to make us better is sometimes not the answer. It is stated that the Lord helps those who help themselves. We are here on earth to be proactive and to learn. Doctors, especially good and inspired ones, are there to help through infertility, disease, and other ailments. We have a prophet who is a doctor and encourages the health of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We each come from different backgrounds, the way that we learn, and different ways in which our bodies operate. Somethings, such as herbs work better for others because of certain health conditions while others need doctors. It is our choice and what we receive from revelation. Yes, God can help us, but he can only help us to the extent we are willing to work. Through our own research, questions, and prayers, we can find reason both in faith and in science.

  • Avatar for LDSC Vince M Says:

Our health is our own responsibility and opinions vary widely as to what is right. The Lord will not force us in any way to follow one path or another. He expects us to use our own judgement and choose for ourselves. I for one am glad to see this article after so much one-sided reporting on vaccines, drugs, etc. as being good and safe and scientific. Further research down the rabbit hole of the medical situation in this world reveals the obvious. However it is becoming increasingly hard to find differing opinions when the news sources are controlling what we can see, and banning all dissenting views. The best advice? Stop watching the tv and listening to main stream news on the radio. Do that and you won’t even realize there is a pandemic going on, because there isn’t.

Mingling one’s opinions (or even personal revelation) with scripture with the intent to guide others, or choosing to follow the counsel of someone who is not in authority to guide us, is dangerous, and can be detrimental to our temporal and spiritual well-being. I suggest we follow the prophet and trust the Lord with the modern medical blessings He has given us.

I personally got a severe autoimmune disease right after a “recommended “ double dose of a flu vaccine several years ago. My daughter-in-law had a miscarriage and was rendered sterile after she had the H1N1 flu vaccine. Later medical reports admitted that many pregnant women who had the vaccine did have those side effects, which originally weren’t anticipated. At the time, 2009, the “experts” were recommending that pregnant women receive the vaccine. I have a good friend whose doctor recommended that she get the shingles vaccine. She did and guess what? She got a severe case of the shingles.
After my own experience with a newly acquired autoimmune disease due to a vaccine, I began researching the safety of vaccines. Later when my doctor told me I was behind on all of the “recommended immunizations” for those in my age group, I said I would no longer be getting them. He said, “Well, then, take plenty of Vitamin D”.
There is a lot of literature available on the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. Do your own research, but not from the MSM, the government,( CDC, WHO, AMA) or anyone else who has a conflict of interest.
If you are too lazy to do your own research, but turn over your every decision to “whatever the prophet says, is good enough for me”, I hope you don’t blame others when you or one of your loved ones suffers from severe side effects of vaccines. It will then be YOUR fault!

Loved the article. Loved tbe research and scriptures. First principle of the gospel- faith in Jesus Christ and his power. He IS the master physician. Priesthood blessings always. Go to the Lord first and often. Seek truth and you will find it. I have. It saved my life and changed my life for the better and others through me. God gave us an amazing essential POWERFUL magnificently designed immune system and He provided plants to heal for EVERY disease naturally. You don’tneed a vaccine if you have a treatment for a disease. There are preventative protocols and treatments for every disease. The author is correct in quoting that drugs change nature and are foreign polluters and put the body OUT OF BALANCE and HARMONY and ( i believe with the spirit.) You ARE entitled to personal revelation after you “study” it. Yes STUDY = research and learn PRINCIPLES of health. Anatomy and physiology including the principles of FASCIA AND energy AND natural therapies using plants, herbs, oils, “let food be thy medicines”. You have a body for life so why not put the best life promotion into your body?
(definitely don’t rely on the deceit from mainstream media or rely entirely from universities/medicine research funded by pharmaceutical comp ) Match the science knowledge and human psychology/motives to see if CONSISTENT with the scritures. The Word of Wisdom is SO important the concepts are not out of date. Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on energy BALANCE and herbs and has stood the test of time for thousands of years. Modern psychology, neuroscience or molecular science etc are only just beginning to explain ( and trying to claim it as theirs) long established traditional and herbal practices such as Yoga, Mindfulness, TCM, vitamins and minerals, such as Niacin for depression etc aromatherapy calming effects on the Limbic system for anxiety etc vit D ( all cancer suffers have vit D and Selenium deficencies), clove oil for pain, zinc and a host of antioxidant foods/herbs for strong immunity, probiotics for the gut/brain connection ( mood, autism, schizophrenia etc) and so many other physical and AUTOIMMUNE diseases like diabetes , Lupus, MS, and CANCER. The list of plant medicines goes on. The TRUTH is science IS proving traditional remedies BUT the MODERN MEDICAL INDUSTRY DIRECTED BY NAZI STYLE AGENDAS and funded by their offspring Pharaceuticals want the power/, control and money as they always have. ( Do your research on that). There are many genuine sincere doctors who believe they are helping people and doing their best with the deficent knowledge they have. Many skilful surgeons have performed life saving surgeries where drugs have been beneficial. They can be a useful resource. However its about balance again. Others think they
and science ARE the new God. Some people treat doctors as such. As long as LDS remember they are not God and dont give them responsibility over their health and life.
As for me, i choose faith in Christ as my healer and the power he gave me in my immune system, his sacrifice to give me the gift of freeagency, the blessing to have access to great knowledge from all disciplines, a mind to study and discern , the Holy Gost to speak truth to my mind AND heart and His
    miraculous loving
abundant yummy natural healing plants. Remember, you don’t need a vaccine if you have a healthy strong immune system (prevention) (gut health = mental and immune health ) or treatment (plant and body knowledge).

No scriptural support for vaccines? What about the handbook of the church? It’s right there for everyone to read. And the policy leaves it up to personal choice and seeking guidance. That should be the end of the matter. This article is not even needed, or helpful. Let every member seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost, taking counsel from living prophets seriously. His first fallacy is the mot glaring. The scriptures do not confirm truth, they allow us to read truth. It is the Holy Ghost that confirms truth and through His influence we can know the “truth of all things”. The article is too myopic for me. It’s skips and skirts around the scriptures, and picks through past prophets to try and prop up a personal point. The author is assuming authority to teach “every” Latter Day Saint. Maybe he has been led personally for whatever reason. This does not give him authority to teach the church as a whole. Regressively, his remedies leave stranded those who have faith to face a challenge for which his recommendations have not effected a healing. What of those. As Elder Oaks taught in April 2010, Healing of the Sick, There is no inherent conflict between the priesthood and medical science.

No prophetic revelatory protocol has been issued to command the use of vaccines, just personal opinions, correct ? Interesting thoughts. Unfortunately the quote you gave by Harold B. Lee needs some clarification. President Lee also said this “Only the prophet will receive revelation for the Church. How can we know when those holding these positions are speaking by the mind and will of the Lord? May I read to you something that has been written for another occasion. We must have in mind that there is only the President of the Church, the presiding high priest, who has the right to receive revelation for the Church, either new or amendatory or to give authoritative interpretation to the scripture which shall be binding on the Church. He is the sole mouthpiece on the earth for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the only true church. He alone may declare the mind and will of God to His people. No officer or any other church in the world has this high right and lofty prerogative. So when any other person, irrespective of who he is, undertakes to do any of these things, you may know that he is not moved upon by the Holy Ghost in so speaking, unless he has special authorization from the President of the Church.”
So clearly President Nelson is the only person on earth to receive revelation for the whole church today. He counseled us, united with the first presidency, to get the vaccines. Are you in disagreement with the living prophet? Here is what Elder Ezra Taft Benson said on the subject. It is very important to understand exactly what he is saying or we can end up like those that rejected Abinadi and Noah and Alma etc. and paid dearly for it.
“God knows all things, the end from the beginning, and no man becomes president of the church of Jesus Christ by accident, or remains there by chance, or is called home by happenstance.

The most important prophet, so far as we are concerned, is the one who is living in our day and age. This is the prophet who has today’s instructions from God to us. God’s revelation to Adam did not instruct Noah how to build the ark. Every generation has need of the ancient scripture, plus the current scripture from the living prophet. Therefore, the most crucial reading and pondering that you should do is of the latest inspired words from the Lord’s mouthpiece. That is why it is essential that you have access to and carefully read his words. …

Yes, we thank thee, O God, for a prophet to guide us in these latter days [see Hymns, no. 19].12

Beware of those who would set up the dead prophets against the living prophets, for the living prophets always take precedence.

Each President has been uniquely selected for the time and situation which the world and Church needed. All were “men of the hour,” as we have witnessed in President Spencer W. Kimball. Contemplate the miracle of that foreordination and preparation! Though called and given keys many years prior to the time that the mantle fell upon him, the President was always the right man in the right place for the times. This miracle alone is one of the marks of the divinity of the Church.14

Let me ask, do we need a true prophet of the Lord on the earth today? Did the people in Noah’s day need a prophet to warn them spiritually and temporally? Had a man refused to follow Noah, would he have been saved from the flood? Yet the Bible tells us that in the last days in which we live, the wickedness of the people will become comparable to the wickedness of the people in Noah’s day when God cleansed the earth by flood [see Matthew 24:37–39]. Do you think we need a prophet today to warn us and prepare us for the cleansing that God promised will come, this time by fire?15

If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.” Teaching of Ezra Taft Benson page 149

In my view the question isn’t should we get the vaccine? Is the prophet speaking as the prophet? Is what he is saying in harmony with the scriptures? The question is, is Russel M. Nelson God’s chosen prophet on the earth today? Pray and ask God. If he is we sure better follow his counsel regardless of the issue or what we may think.

If you follow Jesus you will follow the prophet since the Lord called him and reveals to him what he wants members to do. We need a living prophet to tell living members what to do. • Avatar for LDSC Cyndy Parkinson Says:

In response to Jason Campbell. It is true we have a living prophet who we should listen to today and for our time. And it is he who receives revelation for the church as a whole. However we are entitled to our own personal revelation for ourselves! I did not hear the prophet tell us to get the vaccine!! Did you? I saw a clip of him getting it, and have attempted to understand his decision. First and foremost He’s a doctor, and I am married to one! They’ve been instructed by the CDC and pharmaceutical companies their entire life. Did the prophet pray about whether or not he should receive the vaccine? We don’t know the answer to that. Is the prophet, in addition to the being the mouthpiece of God, sometimes just a man? Absolutely! Is there a need for him to keep good relations with the Govt. and world, and to perhaps be an example for church members, especially the elderly. Absolutely. But Pres. Nelson also went skiing when he was 90 years old. Does that mean we should all go skiing at age 90? I doubt that would have a very favorable outcome. Each person should be allowed to decide for themselves whether or not they should go skiing at age 90, and whether or not they should inject an experimental drug into their bodies, without judgment from anyone else. I support the prophet as Prophet, Seer, and Revelator for our church. I agree with his closing remarks in conference that we need to do all we can to stop the spread of this virus so that our Temples can re-open. But I believe that is to follow the word of wisdom and get good nutrition, sleep and exercise to boost our own innate immune system, not to inject my body with a harmful so-called vaccine. And I didn’t hear the prophet tell me to do that either.

My oldest so far has the most amount of health issues. My youngest is the healthiest.

The matter of fact is that I haven’t received any confirmation from the Holy Ghost to take the Covid vaccine even after the prophet took it. In fact I received a stuper of thought when I saw some of the leaders take it and I read their comments about vaccination. D&C 9:8-9

This great article has summarized my research and what the Holy Ghost has taught me on this subject. Let’s not forget who the pharassies were, the religious leaders they were, what they did to Christ, and that history tends to repeat or at least resemble. Those who blindly followed the pharassies murdered Christ.

Christ taught us to embrace the sick, comfort and heal them, not fear and run away from the sick. And policy is opinion not doctrine or blacks still wouldn’t be allowed to have the priesthood, and we would still go by Mormons.

As for me and my house, we will do our best to follow Jesus Christ. Those who choose to take the vaccines, I hope you have prayed and received personal revelation and not blindly followed man, or have gotten it because pressure and shame by those around you. Which is not God’s way either.

Either way I hope everyone well and stay close to Christ.

These women are “prophets” in their own field. They have callings.  Let the reader discern who the Lord has called and inspired to lead in specific fields. Politics has darkened our minds in 2020 and 2021.  We have let fear dominate our reasoning. These women and others have lightened the darkness of politics and religious misinformants.

When the Leaders of the Church came out with their statement in favor of vaccinations, and there was a statement read to church members over the pulpit, I knew that the Church was not being led by Christ anymore. Vaccines have been harming children and adults since the 1930’s and it’s all being hidden. They are putting material in these vaccines that comes from mouse brain tissue, dog tissue, monkey kidney tissue, and aborted fetuses. Our immune system can’t deal with viruses that come from animal tissue and the DNA of aborted tissue is not something we should have in our bodies. Judy Mikovits talks about this in her book Plague of Corruption. She mentions all the animal tissues in vaccines. AND then there are the HEAVY METALS in the vaccines. They have aluminum, mercury in some—-I mean this is heavy stuff. And, Ronald Reagan( who was not such a great President), signed into law a bill making it so we can no longer sue the vaccine manufacturers. Isn’t that handy for them? NO PARENT should trust ANY vaccine of ANY kind. And here the LDS Church has thousands of missionaries getting shot up with vaccines so they can go on a mission. This is downright EVIL! These missionaries will suffer from these vaccines. There are already missionaries who have died because of vaccines they got when trying to prepare for a mission. There goes that life. This is just what our enemies want—they don’t want the young men around to defend this country. They are killing them when young, as children, and in their youth, and also sterilizing people with vaccines so they can’t have children. This is the enemy and as members of the LDS church, we better start asking ourselves just exactly why our leaders are cooperating with Bill and Melinda Gates and urging the members to get vaccines. They are lying to us, folks.

We are taught – as are ALL Christians – to be “in the world, but not of the world.” How is it then that the church has aligned itself with Hollywood, the BLATANTLY censuring Media (in all of its forms), the United Nations (and UNICEF), those who have just stolen the Presidential election and are openly destroying our borders, our sovereignty, our economy, and our Judeo-Christian culture? When nearly EVERYONE promoting the vaccines are corrupt and evil, what does that tell us?
In addition to being a Second Witness for Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon (Moroni, in Ether 8:22,23) warns us of secret combinations that will exist in OUR day – as does the Word of Wisdom. This is on full display with this manufactured “pandemic.” I did the math on the chances of anyone under the age of 19 dying from “covid.” The survival rate for that age group – according to the CDC a year ago – was 99.997%. The number of children who had allegedly contracted the “virus” (in the L.A. area, as an example) was less than .4%. So the chances of a child getting and dying from it were just over one in ten million. So why would ANYONE vaccinate a beloved child with this completely unproven “vaccine,” when their chance of dying (without even taking other readily-available and highly-affordable treatments, such as zinc, vitamin D, and hydroxychloroquine) are ZERO?

Meanwhile, three of the vaccine manufacturers paid $2.3 Billion, $2.2 Billion, and $3 Billion (Pfizer, Johnson & Jonson, and GlaxoSmithKline, respectively), for a total of $7.5 BILLION (the three largest fines EVER) for misleading the public on the use of their products…and we’re supposed to trust THEM to be looking out for us, while making TRILLIONS of dollars just in the short term? (They plan on vaccinating us yearly or more from now on.)

And finally, Tucker Carlson reported last night that the beleaguered Anthonty Fauci had funded the Wuhan lab to the tune of millions of dollars to DEVELOPE the Corona virus (which some of us knew 6 months ago).

Bottom line: This is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated upon mankind, for the purpose of subjugating, and ultimately decimating the world population…and we’re supposed to simply obey?

I take only one exception to this article.

    D&C 42 reads:
43 And whosoever among you are sick, and have not faith to be healed, but believe, shall be nourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild food, and that not by the hand of an enemy.
44 And the elders of the church, two or more, shall be called, and shall pray for and lay their hands upon them in my name; and if they die they shall die unto me, and if they live they shall live unto me.

Yet your translation of what that means seems to rely more on the History of the Church:

“I preached to a large congregation at the stand, on the science and practice of medicine, desiring to persuade the Saints to trust in God when sick, and not in an arm of flesh, and live by faith and not by medicine, or poison; and when they were sick, and had called for the Elders to pray for them, and they were not healed, to use herbs and mild food” (History of the Church, volume 4, page 414).

Specifically D&C starts with “And whosoever among you are sick, and have not faith to be healed”. To me, faith is the first step, not calling upon the Elders. Most people can’t call upon the Elders. I believe his plan is simply to first “have faith to be healed.” That, in and of itself can be sufficient. The scriptures are replete with examples of this.
    1. Faith
    2. If that didn’t work, then Nourish and Blessing
    3. Then whatever the outcome know that it’s God’s will

In any case, thank you for the great article!

My question to those saying, The Prophet is telling us to get this vaccine, where did he say that? From what I read our Prophet said it is an individual decision. My decision to not put an experimental drug into my body is my choice. I was told growing up in the late 60’s and 70’s how dangerous experimenting with drugs was and they could kill you. I feel the contents of these vaccines have not been tested long enough for us to know all the side effects or whether they could kill us.

I love this article so very much!! Thank you!! I’ll be sharing this. This ratifies everything that I’ve felt for many years.

Almost 30 years ago now, when my husband and I started our family, we studied this out and asked the Lord. He said, “No.” We received a lot of ridicule from the “arm of flesh,” but we held firm. We now have 6 children and we follow the Lord’s laws and ways on health and all are doing great!

The only time we had a problem was when my oldest child decided to serve a mission. We didn’t know at the time that there was a choice not to get vaccinated as long as the missionary served in his/her home country. So my daughter got the bare minimum vaccinations … including the pertussis (whooping cough) one. As a result, she and many of our family got whooping cough, including my 4-month old son. It was the scariest time of my life! It didn’t matter that this was all for a church mission (which ended up being in her home country anyway). The LORD had told us many years earlier, “no” … and that meant “no” no matter what! Interestingly, there was a huge outbreak of whooping cough at that same time (2013) because the vaccine was causing it. Same thing happened with the polio vaccine in the 1990s.

By the way, this is the book that my husband and I read (per our midwife’s recommendation) when we were prayerfully making the decision about whether or not to have our children vaccinated: “Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective?” by Neil Z. Miller – https://www.amazon.com/Vaccines-They-Really-Safe-Effective/dp/1881217302/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=vaccines+are+they+really+safe+and+effective&qid=1628741295&sr=8-1
We had oodles of pro-vax propaganda thrown our way as well, so we saw it from both sides.

Also, interestingly, long before ever getting married and having children, I always had a strange, gnawing feeling about vaccines. Something just felt off. And then I later found out why.

Again, I’m so very grateful for this article which puts into words so beautifully, that which the Lord has softly spoken to me for years.

I’m so grateful for the Lord’s laws and ways on health!! Truly, the “destroying angel” will pass us by IF we do as He says. He promised!! No man-made anything can make all of the promises that the Lord makes in the Word of Wisdom. But again, ONLY IF we do as He says!

As an aside: When my 4-month old got whooping cough, I took tons of garlic and vitamin C (and, of course, ate really healthy as always), and just nursed, nursed, nursed! He healed from the “100-day cough” in 2 weeks!

    Dear Brothers and Sisters:
We find ourselves fighting a war against the ravages of COVID-19 and its variants, an unrelenting pandemic. We want to do all we can to limit the spread of these viruses. We know that protection from the diseases they cause can only be achieved by immunizing a very high percentage of the population.
To limit exposure to these viruses, we urge the use of face masks in public meetings whenever social distancing is not possible. To provide personal protection from such severe infections, we urge individuals to be vaccinated. Available vaccines have proven to be both safe and effective.
We can win this war if everyone will follow the wise and thoughtful recommendations of medical experts and government leaders. Please know of our sincere love and great concern for all of God’s children.

Absolutely phenomenal! I read this in the wee hours of the morning and slept has escaped me. I am so stoked, this is what I have been looking for. Along with Doctrine & Covenants 123:13 where we should wear out our lives bringing darkness to light in exposing modern gadianton robbers, I also love Doctrine & Covenants 93: 53 which reads, ” And, verily I say unto you, that it is my will that you should hasten to translate my scriptures, and to obtain a knowledge of history, and of countries, and of kingdoms, of laws of God and man, and all this for the salvation of Zion. Amen.” Is this any different today for our salvation? No, Doctrine & Covenants 4:2 ” 2 Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.” i fully embarking in the service God believe just does not apply to missionary work, or a 2 year stint of missionary service but applies to our whole lives as work out our salvation, and that in giving our “MINDS” means we be willing to put as much effort into studying the Holy Scriptures as most of us study in depth and detail to pass exams knowing this can be, but not limited to, how we provide for our families temporal means. So it is with this that I have had many tender mercies just studying the Saviour’s teaching of the Sermon on the Mount to His Apostles in the Holy Land and His 12 Disciples in Bountiful and how beautiful this journey is verse by verse and footnote by footnote.
However with all of this as I am sure has been reiterated above I am sure in scores of comments, I am so so baffled and perplexed by portions of the 1st Presidencies August 12, 2021 Worldwide message regarding vacinnes ” We want to do all we can to limit the spread of these viruses.
Why did they not convey us to study the word of wisdom and state at worst for us to be cautious using vaccines and research these matters? We stand up against the consumption of alcohol and smoking tobacco. Would standing against vaccines make the church and its membership in the cross hairs of the government leaders that are covertly gadianton robbers and would shut down our missionary program, temple work , and our ability to worship which is the 3 fold of the Church. Since there is opposition in all things, I personally feel that there are gadiantons in the leadership of the Church, not the 15 Brethren, but amongst the over 120+ general authorities there are who have advised and influenced the 1st Presidency to write the statement they did basically appeasing or as it says in Matthew 5:25 “Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou are in the way with him [them], lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the [corrupt] judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer [evil government leaders], and be cast into prison.”
All i know is that I have received a witness from this article that I am not taking any vaccines and I just spent $300 on supplements that contain many “herbs” of the earth from reputable companies that I know can assist in keeping me strong and healthy.
I am SO very grateful for this well written article. I cannot thank you enough.

Although I see the current pandemic as a push for genocide and a very profitable marketing scam, I humbly pray that I will remain faithful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, even though our prophet supports being “vaxxed.” I stand with the 860,000 Great Barrington Declaration physicians and scientists who oppose the “jab” and masking.

  • Avatar for LDSC Dennis Says:

Great article! I have two books that validate these sentiments — “Joseph Smith and Herbal Medicine”, and “Joseph Smith and Natural Foods”.

I think the test that is before the Church right now is whether we will look to man and vaccines for salvation, or whether we will look to the Lord for salvation.

But wait, didn’t the prophet take the jab and generally recommend it? Yes, but he cited his personal experience as a doctor. And he immediately had the General Handbook edited to state that the decision of whether to get this or not was completely up to individuals.

Later, he and the First Presidency issued a statement recommending them, but citing only generic “government leaders and medical experts”. There was no hint of a reference to the Lord or revelation from him on this, and that is because no revelation to the church has been received on this.

What has been received is a previous prophetic promise and warning to the church by President Nelson that unless we each gained the ability to receive personal revelation, we would not be able to survive spiritually in the coming days. That has been fulfilled and is upon us now.

This vaccine is anything but “safe and effective”, and this can be demonstrated best by listening to the true medical experts on this. Doctors like Robert Malone who invented mRNA technology has stated that the jabs are unsafe and less effective than natural antibodies. Dr. Vladimir Zelenko has personally treated thousands of patients in New York, and calls the jab a “poison death shot”. He says that no one should take this. He also testified against this in Israel to a Rabbinical court, and said that he believes this is a test from God to see whether we will look to him or to man for salvation.

There are many other molecular biologists, virologists, and immunologists saying the same things with dire health warnings for all who take them.

That said, I believe that the best arguments for not taking these are spiritual. Read the two prophets account in 1st Kings 13 (note that JST says prophet from Bethel did see an angel), and think of how this relates to following personal revelation. President Nelson is administering a test to the church, just as the prophet from Bethel did with the prophet from Judah.

Then read D&C 112:24-26 and see why this is happening to the church. The Lord previously sent poisonous serpents among the children of Israel which fatally bit all of them. Only those who looked to him were saved (via Serpent on a pole representing Christ).

  • Avatar for LDSC Jennifer Says:

I believe our prophet, President Nelson, when he said that we do not need to wander or wonder who is right… we can know for ourselves. This prophet has stressed time and time again the need for recognizing, understanding and following personal revelation in these last days. And this charge was NOT rescinded when he encouraged members to be vaccinated. Even the church handbook states the importance of personal revelation regarding this issue.

We cannot forget that our prophet is the prophet for the entire world. Many of our members live in countries where they cannot even go to the grocery store unless vaccinated, or must be isolated if not vaccinated. What comfort it would be for those members to get a sanction from the prophet and to trust that all will be well if they have to get vaccinated. Do we not believe the scriptures that the believers can be protected from harm, including poison administered to the body?

At the same time, does this mean that I must get vaccinated when I live in a country and state ťhat allows much freedom?? … when I have chosen to immunize myself and my family through healthy living and particularly living the “Do’s” of the Word of Wisdom?? …when I have fasted and prayed to know if I and my family need to get vaccinated and received the answer No or asked if we were putting others in harm’s way and again received a No answer?? I’m so grateful to our prophet and for his counsel about receiving personal revelation. For now I know for myself.

And at the same time, I recognize that all members have the right to personal revelation and may even get a Yes answer when I received a No. We need to love and respect each other and their right to personal revelation and not judge or condemn others because they don’t believe as we do. Those who pray and seek personal revelation in regards to this matter ARE following the prophet.

We need to also trust our prophet more and remember that he is a physician that “thinks outside of the box” (he was taught that of they touched a beating heart, the person would die, but he prayed to understand the laws behind the heart and learned for himself this was not true and became instrumental in discovering ways and methods to extend life still being used today). There is a reason for their support of this. If anything to keep our temples open that the work continue to move forward. I love our prophet and I’m so grateful for him and his words, which have given me much strength and peace during these difficult days in which we live.

President Nielsen is the prophet for the entire World and that has to be remembered. President Nielsen has been emphasizing the need to “Hear Him” since being set apart as President of the Church. Personal revelation is needed for this matter and we should be letting this be an opportunity to be better tutored by the Lord, in being guided by the Holy Ghost. As long as we are still free to decide for ourselves, we should decide based on studying it out in our minds and then going to God in prayer and fasting to know the will of God. Remember when the poisonous snakes were biting the children of Israel? What did Moses say to them? Those who were obedient and followed Moses counsel to look to the rod, they were not harmed when bitten. This may not be a matter of choice at some point. I know that God knows the end from beginning and I know that President Nielsen is the Lord’s Prophet for his Church and that the Lord would not let him lead his Church astray. We need to be praying for our freedom and liberty and that of the World. This is a divisive topic meant to divide us from our fellowman. Love God and neighbor as ourselves. Don’t let us doubt because we don’t understand the mind of God on this and any other issue, we must hold strong to what we do know and what has been revealed to us individually. My fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we need to exercise our faith and cast out fear. Please do not abandon your faith because you don’t see or understand all things. Jesus Christ is the Savior of each and all and he will come again and make right all the wrongs. I know that he loves each of us infinitely and that we can trust him and he will help us hear him if we seek diligently.

  • Avatar for LDSC David L Olsen Says:

I found this article to have much truth and encouraged deep reflection. Here are some of my thoughts: First, we should not be surprised if something that was said by the Prophet might be found to be in error as more information is revealed. In the past few years, the Church has been changing a lot of things that have been encouraged and allowed by previous Prophets. There have been some things we have thought were doctrine, but have found that we have been in error. We have changed the temple ceremony to adapt to the times that we are in and to be more perfect in its doctrine. To update ourselves on more pure doctrine and see where previous doctrine or statements by Prophets were not complete or even at times in error, does not mean that the man was not a true Prophet, but more that he was a Human being and not a God and as such was subject to error. That concept should give us hope, not cause us to falter in our faith,- knowing that the Prophets as well as ourselves are human, and ultimately we are each responsible for our own salvation. It should help us understand that we will grow in knowledge and wisdom, just as the Savior did, until the Perfect day. We are not expected to be perfect or have all knowledge at this point.
I have always felt that we give honor to the Prophets, however, our ultimate goal, as President Nelson has stated many times is to, “Hear Him (Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ)”. We listen to a Prophets Counsel, and we are encouraged to ponder and pray and find inspiration on how His words apply to each of us, individually. We give a Prophet much respect and regard, but we do not WORSHIP a prophet. To set any man up as infallible is a form of worship and is not fair to ourselves, or to the man we are setting up, – no matter what his position is.
This concept is also true in our homes. We have been taught the whole purpose of the Church is to support the homes of the Members, and to put the responsibility of the family back on the Father and Mother. While we believe that man is considered to be a Prophet in his home, it does not mean that he is infallible and that is family is expected to follow him without question. We would never expect that a Father know everything there is to know and that his word would be followed blindly by his family. Being a Prophet in the home does not mean that a man should direct every move that his family members make. If a Father were to go to his grown children and tell them what he felt about a vaccine, he would consider that they were free agents and that perhaps they may even know something he does not know regarding them. A true Prophet in the home would listen and allow his sons and daughters their agency in the matter. We would consider it to be abusive doctrine if a Father were to expect that his counsel would be followed, regardless of a son or daughters own informed decision. And yet, it would appear that members are quick to want to give blind obedience to our Church leaders. I do not believe for one minute that President Nelson would expect that kind of obedience. Again, that is not fair to ourselves, or to our leaders, when we desire and expect them to be infallible. King Benjamine explained how important it was for each person to be free agents and accept accountability for their own lives and choices. It is important that we do not give that responsibility to any man or women. Christ only can be given that regard, partly because He is perfect and He will never take our Agency and will never let us down. Agency and personal inspiration are core principles of the gospel. God bless us all to seek and find answers and to accept and love each other in our human weaknesses.

    19 And the nations of the earth shall honor her, and shall say: Surely Zion is the city of our God, and surely Zion cannot fall, neither be moved out of her place, for God is there, and the hand of the Lord is there;

    23 The Lord’s scourge shall pass over by night and by day, and the report thereof shall vex all people; yea, it shall not be stayed until the Lord come;

24 For the indignation of the Lord is kindled against their abominations and all their wicked works.

25 Nevertheless, Zion shall escape if she observe to do all things whatsoever I have commanded her.

26 But if she observe not to do whatsoever I have commanded her, I will visit her according to all her works, with sore affliction, with pestilence, with plague, with sword, with vengeance, with devouring fire.

    27 Nevertheless, let it be read this once to her ears, that I, the Lord, have accepted of her offering; and if she sin no more none of these things shall come upon her;

I am WALKING and in EXCELLENT HEALTH! All throughout those 49 years were without any medical doctor’s supervisions and free of any legal drugs (prescription drug,) I am free from physical pain. ‘OUR BODY’S ABILITY TO HEAL IS GREATER THAN ANYONE HAS PERMITTED US TO BELIEVE.” Having all these Wisdom and Knowledge are wealth in itself. My mother just celebrated her 86th birthday and can still do straight 30 squats and jog every morning. My 3 children were born and raised without any vaccination and (as far I knew) were the only 3 students in their elementary, Junior High and High School who never had vaccinations. People would ask me; (especially schools in California,) how did you get away with that? Easy, the answer is KNOW THE LAW, KNOW HOW TO PREVENT AND CURE the disease. They have never missed 1 day in school sick, never had anti-biotic (anti-life as I call it,) all 3 are excellent in sports and academic. I totally believe and practice to undefiled the Temple of God (my body.) From the very start of the PLANDEMIC the Holy Ghost whispered to me that just like in the past, this is another deceit and work of the Secret Combination, and this is Demonic. I am so grateful I listened to the Holy Ghost. I’ve heard many people regret taking the kill shots, but not anyone said; that they regret not having the shots. I am sure that there are many natural substances that can help people to detox and save their bodies from deteriorating after the shots. It’s a long way to healing as much as it’s a long way to stay and keep our bodies healthy. We again go back to the basic. FAITH, HERBS, GOOD and EXECISE. I also thought I should because my elderly mother was living with my and I thought by doing so I was protecting her. But my gut feeling was telling me not to get the vaccine. Now I really regret taking the vaccine because I am now suffering from vaccine injury and my days are spent in bed with an oxygen tank. I was perfectly healthy before and now I have severe dyspnea and fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, tinnitus, brain fog, loss of taste, and rapid heart beat. I can’t get from my bed to the kitchen with gasping for air. My d-dimer and fibrinogen test revealed clotting, so now I started a protocol using herbs and intermittent fasting to hopefully clear my body of this, but it’s a long shot.

    Great article!

Those who foolishly think RMN speaks for the Lord (like I used to believe) should get better acquainted with the Word of God known as the scriptures.

For starters Section 84 – Church brought under condemnation for taking the Scriptures lightly.

Section 101 – The enemy came in and took over the church while the church was yet laying its foundation.

Section 124 – The Higher Priesthood WAS lost, and Christ OFFICIALLY Rejects the LDS Church! Ouch!

Mormon 8 – Moroni sees OUR day, and that the LDS have polluted the holy church of God – etc!

2 Nephi 28 – The Gentiles (the LDS people) are called out for trusting in the arm of flesh & are cursed.

Isaiah 1 – Read the description of WHO the Lord is disgusted with – WE have revolted against God.

Jeremiah 23 – Both prophet and priest are profane, IN MY HOUSE I have found their wickedness. I HAVE NOT SENT THESE PROPHETS, yet they ran.

Jacob 2 & 3 – God condemns polygamy as sin, wickedness and abomination. There are over 110 phrases in the Book of Mormon that condemn polygamy, and NOT ONE that supports it. Ponder that.

We as the LDS religion are drunk but not with wine. We are walking in darkness at noonday.

The hard hearted, proud, and stiff necked will not receive the message from this Lord contained in the above scriptures – instead they will be cursed for believing that All is Well IN ZION, but the humble, Truth seeker will have all of the rest of scripture come ALIVE for them once they understand that the Book of Mormon was written to WARN the LDS people of THEMSELVES.

Joseph Smith warned us that “your religion cannot save you” Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can show us how to be saved. We must Repent and Come unto Christ – only then will we belong to His Church – at least that’s what Christ tells us in 1 Nephi………..

The first presidency August 2021 letter is what provoked me to get serious about reading the scriptures because I could not understand why the first presidency was LYING to us!!! WOW! I had no idea that as a life long Mormon, I was so pathetically ignorant of the Word of God and of Church history.

I Love the Book of Mormon now more than ever because it IS powerful guidance for me TODAY.

Mosiah 1 applies to us perfectly today…

2 And it came to pass that he had three sons; and he called their names Mosiah, and Helorum, and Helaman. And he caused that they should be taught in all the language of his fathers, that thereby they might become men of understanding; and that they might know concerning the prophecies which had been spoken by the mouths of their fathers, which were delivered them by the hand of the Lord.

3 And he also taught them concerning the records which were engraven on the plates of brass, saying: My sons, I would that ye should remember that were it not for these plates, which contain these records and these commandments, we must have suffered in ignorance, even at this present time, not knowing the mysteries of God.

4 For it were not possible that our father, Lehi, could have remembered all these things, to have taught them to his children, except it were for the help of these plates; for he having been taught in the language of the Egyptians therefore he could read these engravings, and teach them to his children, that thereby they could teach them to their children, and so fulfilling the commandments of God, even down to this present time. (Without the scriptures, prophets would be ignorant)

5 I say unto you, my sons, were it not for these things, which have been kept and preserved by the hand of God, that we might read and understand of his mysteries, and have his commandments always before our eyes, that even our fathers WOULD HAVE dwindled in unbelief, and we should have been like unto our brethren, the Lamanites, who know nothing concerning these things, OR EVEN DO NOT BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY ARE TAUGHT THEM, BECAUSE OF the traditions of their fathers, which are NOT correct.

    — As an LDS people we DO NOT believe the scriptures – just read the comments above to gain that testimony. We do not believe the scriptures, the Word of God, because of our LDS leaders false traditions that are in direct opposition to these very scriptures.

Read the scriptures for yourself and then compare and contrast with your religion.

God accepts black and white people – always has!
Polygamy is always wickedness – and that’s why Joseph Smith only had ONE wife. (brigham young deleted Section 101 that taught this principle)
Priestcraft is forbidden. Priestcraft is preaching for money $$ and setting yourself up for a light unto the world. Priestcraft sounds like this: “follow me – the profit, I cannot lead you astray”

Read the Book of Mormon and then liken it unto yourself. IT WILL HURT! Once you come to terms that you’ve been deceived, then you can Repent and Return to Christ. This is WHY Christ Commanded the Book of Mormon reader to search Isaiah diligently. Isaiah teaches the LDS people that they are in apostacy, and what to do about it. The proud, hard hearted, and stiffnecked will just get angry instead of humbling themselves – 2 Nephi 28:28

Hopefully this is a great starting point for those who have been heading the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the Spirit has been warning everyone that has ears to hear to not get the arm of flesh jab. By thy sorceries (pharmakeia) were all nations deceived – Revelation 18:23

Wow. This is an amazing set of comments. Let me just say that I always pray for a testimony of the directions given. But I am a person who previously practiced as a clinician. One of the things I learned early on is that trying a new product first is a mistake. I can give you a list…here are just a few… Thalidomide (morning sickness) caused birth defects, Avandia (diabetes) caused heart problems, Fen-Phen (weight loss) caused heart problems, Lorcaserin (weight loss) caused increased risk for cancer…and the list goes on and on. Many of our new drugs turn out to have severe side effects. Then they have to be taken off the market or severely restricted in their use. The human immune system is a true miracle, and it is complex and amazing. It is not reasonable to think that it would take only a few months to get the formula just right for the COVID vaccine. That just does not make sense. President Nelson did tell us to pray and talk to our doctors to see if this was right for us…and so I did. We can be faithful AND thoughtful. And we can make the right choice, if we let the Spirit guide.
